Nicolás Maduro faces a June 2027 trial in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on four counts, including narco-terrorism conspiracy and cocaine importation conspiracy stemming from a superseding indictment unsealed after his January 2026 capture. He and his wife entered not guilty pleas in January, and defense counsel has signaled plans to seek dismissal on head-of-state immunity grounds and challenges to the underlying military operation. Pretrial motions deadlines begin in September 2026, creating extended opportunities for procedural resolutions, plea negotiations, or partial outcomes before any jury verdict. These factors, combined with the case’s unprecedented nature and historical precedents involving foreign officials, underpin trader consensus that conviction on every count remains uncertain.
