Yordan Alvarez and Nick Kurtz currently pace MLB with nine intentional walks apiece through mid-June 2026, followed closely by Mike Trout at eight and Shohei Ohtani and James Wood at seven. This tight clustering among established power threats and emerging bats like Juan Soto stems from comparable plate discipline, home-run rates, and lineup contexts that prompt opposing pitchers to issue free passes rather than risk damage. Rosters’ offensive needs, rest advantages, and head-to-head pitching matchups further sustain the bunched probabilities, as small edges in recent form or injury recoveries can shift weekly totals in a race defined by situational avoidance rather than volume alone.
