Persistent inflation above the ECB’s 2% target, driven by elevated energy prices amid Middle East tensions, underpins trader expectations for the October 28-29 meeting. Euro-area HICP reached 3.3% in August, prompting the Governing Council’s September 25-basis-point hike to a 2.50% deposit rate and upward revisions to 2026-2028 inflation forecasts. Recent resilience in eurozone growth and manufacturing has also kept tightening risks alive, supporting the 31% implied probability of another 25-basis-point increase. At the same time, the absence of fresh escalation signals or sharply hotter data since mid-September has anchored the 68% probability of no change, with markets viewing the latest move as potentially completing the immediate tightening phase unless incoming indicators shift the balance.

Increases or decreases of less than 25 bps will be rounded to 25 bps (e.g. an increase or decrease of 10 bps would be considered to be an increase or decrease of 25 bps). Increases or decreases of greater than 25 bps will be rounded to the nearest 25 bps and will be rounded away from 0 in cases of equidistance (e.g., an increase or decrease of 37.5 bps would be considered to be an increase or decrease of 50 bps). Displayed options of “Increase” or “Decrease” will include policy rate increases or decreases of any size.
If the specified meeting is postponed to a date and time before the start of the next scheduled meeting, this market will resolve based on the outcome of that postponed meeting.
