Leonard Krog, the incumbent Nanaimo mayor seeking a third term, holds the leading position in trader assessments ahead of the October 17, 2026, municipal election. His July 2026 re-election announcement reinforces continuity for voters familiar with his prior victories in 2018 and 2022. Anne Marie Dryden, positioned as the mayoral candidate for the newly formed Real Nanaimo slate since May 2026, represents the main organized alternative but faces structural headwinds in a race where slates have been uncommon in recent decades. With candidate nominations not closing until September 11, 2026, the broad field of declared and potential contenders remains fluid, sustaining uncertainty around secondary outcomes. Incumbency advantages, including name recognition and established record on local issues, underpin current pricing, while late-campaign developments or additional entries could still shift balances before voting.
