Dune: Part Three holds the strongest implied probability among 2027 Best Visual Effects contenders thanks to the franchise’s proven track record of innovative, large-scale effects work and Denis Villeneuve’s consistent emphasis on practical-digital integration. Numerous upcoming releases sit near even odds, reflecting the category’s typical openness to whichever film delivers the most technically ambitious or visually seamless sequences once campaigns launch. Key swing factors include release timing, early critic and guild feedback from the Visual Effects Society, and how each project balances spectacle with narrative integration. Films such as Project Hail Mary and The Odyssey trail due to narrower release windows and less established VFX pipelines, while lower-probability entries like Avengers: Doomsday face stiff competition from non-franchise originals. Traders are watching 2026 premiere reactions and box-office tracking for the first meaningful shifts ahead of nominations.
