The tightly bunched probabilities reflect a deep, balanced field of elite grandmasters whose rapid and blitz ratings cluster within a narrow range heading into the Zagreb event. Anish Giri’s edge stems from his steady recent classical form and proven consistency across time controls, while Nodirbek Abdusattorov benefits from his sky-high blitz rating and strong showing in the opening leg of the 2026 Grand Chess Tour. Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu and Gukesh Dommaraju add youthful momentum from recent Tata Steel and other high-level results, and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave’s experience in the format keeps him competitive. With six full-tour players and wildcards all capable of hot streaks in shorter time controls, small swings in form or pairings can quickly shift the implied probabilities among the top contenders.
