Recent soft July CPI data showing a 0.1% monthly rise and 3.4% annual rate, alongside core inflation easing to 2.5%, combined with a weak July jobs report, have tilted near-term trader sentiment toward eventual easing despite the current 3.50%-3.75% federal funds target. Persistent inflation above the Fed's 2% goal, three dissents favoring a hike at the July meeting under new leadership, and recent oil price pressures from Middle East tensions create counterbalancing hawkish signals that keep probabilities finely balanced. The September 15-16 FOMC meeting, upcoming August CPI and employment data, and any shifts in Treasury yields or market-implied odds from Fed funds futures will likely serve as decisive catalysts for the next policy move.
