Australia enters the 2026 World Cup in a balanced Group D alongside co-host United States, Turkey, and Paraguay, with matches kicking off imminently against Turkey. The Socceroos have shown defensive structure under coach Tony Popovic, including an extended unbeaten run during qualification, yet recent results have been mixed and the squad lacks proven depth against elite opposition. An expanded 48-team format offers eight third-placed teams a path to the round of 32, but the group’s even talent levels create high variance—any result among the four sides remains plausible. This uncertainty sustains elevated market pricing on early elimination while leaving modest implied probability for a round-of-32 or deeper run based on favorable results and tiebreakers.
