Major international developments, particularly the deadly 7.4-magnitude earthquake in Colombia and urgent rescue efforts, positioned Monday as the clear leader in trader sentiment for ABC World News Tonight’s most-viewed night of the week. This breaking disaster coverage aligned with historical patterns where major global events drive peak linear viewership early in the week, outpacing routine domestic stories like Midwest storms or international tensions covered later. Ongoing narratives around naval operations and severe weather sustained modest interest midweek, but lacked comparable immediacy. Weekend editions typically draw smaller audiences due to lighter news cycles and viewer habits, explaining their minimal implied probabilities. Traders appear to weigh the week’s confirmed high-impact opener heavily against typical Nielsen trends for the broadcast.
