This market will resolve “Yes” if Lionel Messi scores a goal directly from a free kick during any match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”. A direct free kick goal is one scored directly from the free kick and officially credited to Lionel Messi by FIFA. A goal that deflects off the wall or a defender and still enters the net counts, provided FIFA credits the goal to Messi. A free kick first touched by a teammate does not count. Penalty kicks and penalty shootout goals do not count. If Lionel Messi does not play in the 2026 FIFA World Cup for any reason, this market will resolve to “50-50”. If the 2026 FIFA World Cup is cancelled, postponed after August 2, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, or it cannot be determined whether Messi scored a direct free kick goal within that timeframe, this market will resolve to “50-50”. The resolution source for this market will be official information from FIFA; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.Lionel Messi's advancing age at 38, combined with a recent left hamstring strain sustained in late May with Inter Miami, has limited his training and pre-tournament minutes ahead of Argentina's 2026 World Cup opener. While cleared for the squad, he is unlikely to feature in final warm-ups, raising questions about his set-piece workload and minutes in a deeper tournament run. Historically, Messi's free-kick conversion rate for the Albiceleste has declined, with his last international dead-ball goal coming in 2023 qualifiers, and MLS examples remain infrequent. Strong group-stage opponents and Scaloni's cautious management of the veteran further reduce opportunities for direct free-kick attempts from dangerous positions, aligning with trader consensus favoring the "no" outcome at 79% implied probability.
