Local government elections are scheduled to be held across Tasmania on October 27, 2026. This market will resolve according to the candidate who becomes the next Mayor of the City of Glenorchy as a result of this election. Temporary, interim, or placeholder mayors appointed before the election will not be considered. If the result of this election isn't known by March 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the market will resolve to "Other". This market will resolve based on the result of the election, as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as declared by the Tasmanian Electoral Commission (https://www.tec.tas.gov.au/).**Sue Hickey, the incumbent Glenorchy mayor since a 2024 by-election, holds the strongest position in the October 27, 2026 Tasmanian local government election, with traders pricing her re-election bid well ahead of deputy mayor Russell Yaxley and other declared or potential candidates.** Hickey publicly confirmed her run in February 2026, citing unfinished work on council culture, finances, and community unity after succeeding Bec Thomas. As a former Hobart lord mayor with prior Glenorchy councillor and deputy mayor experience, her incumbency and visibility provide a clear edge in a postal-ballot contest where nominations close September 21 and the caretaker period begins September 5. Yaxley, elected deputy in 2024, draws support from his current role but trails significantly. Nathan Volf, who announced a platform focused on accessibility, community focus, and environmental priorities, registers modest backing. The broad field of other named candidates reflects early-stage uncertainty before full nominations, while the election’s compulsory voting and proportional elements for councillor seats add layers to mayoral preferences. No major recent disruptions or polling shifts have altered the implied probabilities, which align with the typical advantages for sitting mayors in Tasmanian local races.
