The open contest for Waratah-Wynyard mayor, following incumbent Mary Duniam’s retirement, has produced a fragmented field of sitting councillors and new entrants ahead of the October 27, 2026, Tasmanian local government elections. Nominations opened only recently on September 7 and close September 21, leaving limited time for any candidate to consolidate support across the compulsory-voting electorate. Chloe Foster, a community and business figure, holds the highest single-candidate implied probability near 43 percent, while sitting councillors Michael Johnstone, Leanne Raw, and Dillon Roberts each sit in the low-to-mid teens. Low market volume and the absence of public polling keep trader consensus dispersed, with no candidate exceeding 50 percent. Further candidate statements, local endorsements, or campaign events before close of nominations could shift probabilities by clarifying frontrunner status in this preferential-voting race.
