OpenAI's April 23 release of GPT-5.5, codenamed Spud during development, has become the dominant factor reshaping trader views on GPT-6 timing. The model incorporated anticipated advances in long-term memory, agentic workflows, and multimodal reasoning that many had projected for the next major numbered release, effectively compressing the prior roadmap. With pre-training for the original Spud model completed in late March at the Stargate facility, Sam Altman's subsequent public comments on ongoing GPT-6 work, including a late-April reference to enhanced capabilities, signal that the company is already iterating toward a successor. Historical release cadence and current internal testing patterns point to a likely Q3 or Q4 2026 window for the full GPT-6 large language model, though product timelines in frontier AI remain fluid amid competitive pressure from other labs.

For this market to resolve to "Yes," GPT-6 must be launched and publicly accessible, including via open beta or open rolling waitlist signups. A closed beta or any form of private access will not suffice. The release must be clearly defined and publicly announced by OpenAI as being accessible to the general public.
GPT-6 refers to a product explicitly named GPT-6 (e.g. ChatGPT-6o would count), or one that is recognized as a successor to GPT-5, similar to the progression from GPT-3 to GPT-4. Products labeled as GPT-5.5 or similar will not count for this market's resolution.
The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from OpenAI, with additional verification from a consensus of credible reporting.
