Recent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, particularly the closure of the Strait of Hormuz amid the ongoing U.S.-Israel conflict with Iran, have sharply reduced actual OPEC+ crude output in April by 1.74 million barrels per day from March levels, with disruptions carrying into May. Seven core producers, including Saudi Arabia and Russia, implemented a modest 188,000 barrels-per-day quota adjustment for June following the United Arab Emirates' exit from the group effective May 1. OPEC's May Monthly Oil Market Report lowered its 2026 demand growth forecast while noting persistent supply constraints from voluntary cuts and regional instability. Traders are monitoring compliance with existing targets, secondary source data releases, and any diplomatic signals that could ease or intensify Gulf export restrictions before month-end production figures finalize.
