Rising Serbian star Hamad Medjedovic (ATP No. 67), fresh off a Naples Challenger clay title in late March, meets Spanish lucky loser Martin Landaluce (No. 94) in the Rome Masters round of 16 on Pietrangeli's clay court. Landaluce carries momentum from a straight-sets upset of No. 80 Mattia Bellucci in the third round, extending his "fairytale" deep Masters run, while Medjedovic battled physical exhaustion in his prior win, vomiting courtside in humid conditions. Medjedovic holds a slight head-to-head edge and superior first-serve effectiveness (72% points won), but Landaluce's fresher legs, clay-court pedigree, and stylistic baseline grinding pose upset threat in this best-of-three clash between top-100 aspirants.
