The Iowa 3rd congressional district race pits Republican incumbent Zach Nunn against Democratic challenger Sarah Trone Garriott ahead of the November 2026 general election. The district’s R+2 partisan lean and Nunn’s narrow 2024 reelection margin of roughly four points make it one of the more competitive House contests nationally, with forecasters rating it a toss-up or lean Republican. Traders appear to weigh midterm dynamics, recent Democratic ad launches and six-figure media buys in early August, and polling showing the challenger competitive or ahead in head-to-head matchups. Ongoing campaign attacks from Republican leadership and the presence of a Libertarian candidate add further variables, though primary results confirmed both major-party nominees without significant intra-party challenges.
