Democrats hold a strong lead in trader consensus for Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District because the seat opened after Republican incumbent Don Bacon announced his retirement in June 2025, and the Omaha-centered district voted for Kamala Harris by roughly five points in 2024. Primary results from May 2026 produced Democratic nominee Denise Powell and Republican nominee Brinker Harding, with the race rated a toss-up or lean Democratic by nonpartisan analysts. Early general-election polling has shown Powell ahead or within the margin of error, reflecting the district’s underlying partisan balance and the typical advantages open seats confer to the party that carried it in the prior presidential contest. No late-breaking events have materially shifted positioning ahead of the November 3 general election.
