Jan-Lennard Struff enters the 2026 US Open first-round matchup as the clear market favorite against Camilo Ugo Carabelli, reflecting his higher ranking near No. 44, greater hard-court experience, and powerful serve suited to the fast Flushing Meadows surface. Carabelli, ranked around No. 76 and a clay-court specialist with a career win rate exceeding 64% on that surface but below 48% on hard, arrives with inconsistent recent form marked by multiple retirements and straight-set losses in Montreal and Cincinnati. Struff has shown flashes of strong grass-court results at Wimbledon earlier in 2026, though his overall season record remains mixed. The absence of notable pre-match injuries or withdrawals leaves the outcome driven primarily by surface matchup and current momentum rather than external disruptions.
