Maximilian Marterer, the 31-year-old former world No. 45 and 2014 Überlingen finalist, faces local favorite Louis Wessels in the round of 16 of the ITF M25 Überlingen on clay. Marterer, returning from a lengthy injury layoff and holding a wildcard, leads their head-to-head 1-0 after taking the opening set 7-6 and leading 4-3 in the second during their August 20 clash. The German left-hander brings superior experience and a 4-4 clay record in 2026, while the 27-year-old right-handed Wessels, ranked near No. 530 and seeking his first title at the event, relies on strong recent form at Futures level and home support. Serve consistency, break-point conversion, and physical freshness after short turnarounds will shape the outcome on the slow clay courts.
