Monday’s leading 59.5% market-implied probability stems from the major 7.4-magnitude Colombia earthquake that struck early that day, triggering urgent rescue coverage and wall-to-wall breaking-news segments on ABC World News Tonight with David Muir. This high-impact international disaster aligned with typical patterns where sudden global crises boost linear and streaming viewership for the top-rated evening newscast. Subsequent days lacked comparable standout events—Tuesday and Wednesday hovered near 22% amid routine political and weather stories, while later weekdays and the weekend posted lower odds reflecting standard audience drop-off and lighter news cycles. Traders appear to have priced in Monday’s unique momentum from the quake’s immediate aftermath, consistent with how major disasters historically shift weekly ratings leadership in network news.
