FIFA's repeated public affirmations that Iran will compete as scheduled have anchored trader consensus around no replacement for the 2026 World Cup. Recent confirmations from President Gianni Infantino at the April congress, combined with secured player visas and Iran's official preparations despite regional tensions, have reinforced this outlook. Proposals to substitute Italy drew swift rejections from Italian officials as inappropriate and undeserved, while the U.S. clarified that athletes remain eligible even amid restrictions on certain personnel. This stability outweighs earlier speculation tied to travel concerns or boycott rhetoric. A genuine Iranian withdrawal, driven by unresolved diplomatic escalations before June, could still open the door for the highest-ranked non-qualified Asian side such as the UAE, though current developments make such a shift improbable.
