Both players are retired from professional tennis, with Dennis Novak announcing his retirement in November 2025 after a career-high singles ranking of No. 85 and Julian Knowle having stepped away from competitive play years earlier to focus on coaching and occasional doubles. Their prior connection—Knowle coached Novak during his rise into the top 100—has no bearing on current activity. The Croatia Open Umag qualifying, scheduled to begin July 11 on outdoor clay, features no confirmed participation or recent results from either Austrian, rendering the head-to-head matchup effectively moot absent any unannounced return or exhibition. Trader consensus reflects this absence of competitive form, rankings movement, or tournament entry.
