Ben Shelton enters the Halle Open grass-court matchup as the clear favorite against Lorenzo Sonego, driven by his superior ranking, recent form, and stylistic advantages on the surface. The American leads the head-to-head 4-1 and has secured four wins in his last five matches, including strong results on faster courts after navigating an earlier 2026 quadriceps issue and mixed clay-court results. Sonego, ranked outside the top 60 with a 4-7 record this season, advanced through qualifying but lacks consistent momentum. Shelton’s powerful serve and baseline game align particularly well with Halle’s conditions, while Sonego’s experience offers limited counter against the higher-ranked opponent in this Round of 32 encounter.
