Recent National Weather Service guidance and ensemble model consensus point to a moderating airmass over Chicago following early September heat, with easterly flow off Lake Michigan expected to limit daytime heating on September 6. Official forecasts indicate highs near 78–81 °F at inland sites like O’Hare, with lake-adjacent readings potentially several degrees cooler due to onshore advection and modest cloud cover. This aligns with the market’s tight clustering around 76–81 °F bins, where small differences in boundary-layer mixing, dew-point depression, or timing of any weak frontal passage could shift the daily maximum by 2–3 °F. Updated NWS short-range guidance and high-resolution model runs over the next 48 hours will provide the clearest signals for traders monitoring resolution criteria at the primary reporting station.
