Philadelphia Phillies face Pittsburgh Pirates in the series opener at PNC Park, with Aaron Nola starting for Philly amid a rocky season start and Braxton Ashcraft taking the hill for Pittsburgh. Traders eye Pittsburgh's recent dominance, winning seven of the last eight head-to-heads, paired with the Pirates' elite home offense—second in MLB OPS at PNC—against Philadelphia's league-worst road offense. Bullpen depth concerns both sides: Phillies without relievers Kyle Backhus (elbow, 15-day IL) and Zach Pop (calf, 15-day IL), while Pirates miss catcher Joey Bart (foot, 10-day IL) and outfielder Jake Mangum (hamstring). Recent momentum favors Pittsburgh's home/away splits as key matchup factors.
