Recent Venice Film Festival momentum, including John Malkovich’s Volpi Cup win for his lead role in Martin McDonagh’s “Wild Horse Nine,” has positioned him as an early frontrunner for a Best Actor nomination at the 2027 Oscars. Christopher Nolan’s ambitious “The Odyssey” fuels Matt Damon’s strong contender status through its scale and physically demanding performance, while Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s “Digger” revives Tom Cruise’s overdue narrative. Andrew Scott’s work in “Elsinore” and other fall festival entries add depth to a wide-open field. Trader sentiment reflects these high-profile vehicles and historical guild-precursor patterns, with nominations voting still months away in January 2027. Further Toronto and Telluride reactions, plus early critical consensus, will shape the next shifts.
