This market will resolve “Yes” if Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are observed physically shaking hands with one another at any point during the 2026 FIFA World Cup window. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”. The 'handshake' must occur while the listed players are on the pitch or the bench area; handshakes in the locker room or other areas will not count. This can occur before, during, or after the match. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No." If the 2026 FIFA World Cup is cancelled, postponed after August 2, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, or no qualifying handshake can be confirmed within that timeframe, this market will resolve to “No”. The primary resolution source for this market will be official match footage and broadcast video; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.Argentina and Portugal occupy separate groups in the expanded 48-team bracket, with Messi’s side in Group J and Ronaldo’s in Group K, eliminating any group-stage matchup. A handshake would require both nations to advance through the round of 32 and align on a specific knockout path—most plausibly a quarterfinal—which remains far from certain even for two strong favorites. Neither side has reported injuries or roster issues that would alter their progression odds, and no shared pre-tournament events or ceremonies have placed the players in proximity. The resulting trader consensus reflects the narrow window for any direct on-pitch encounter between the two veterans in what is widely expected to be their final World Cup.
