With Emmanuel Macron constitutionally ineligible for a third consecutive term, the 2027 French presidential election under the two-round system features an unusually fragmented field of potential candidates. Marine Le Pen's appeal of her embezzlement conviction and five-year public-office ban reaches a key July 2026 ruling that could bar her from the ballot and position Jordan Bardella as the National Rally nominee. Jean-Luc Mélenchon confirmed his fourth run for the radical left in early May 2026, while center-right contenders including Edouard Philippe and Gabriel Attal seek to consolidate support. Left-wing parties have launched a unitary primary process, and recent polls show far-right options leading first-round intentions amid ongoing party realignments.
