**Recent forecasts indicate a moderating trend for Chicago on September 5, 2026, with daytime highs most likely in the low-to-mid 80s°F.** Earlier in the week, a heat dome brought unseasonably high temperatures in the lower 90s, but a shift in steering patterns and increasing onshore flow from Lake Michigan is expected to cap readings. Official guidance from the National Weather Service and multiple models (including GFS-influenced outputs) points to partly to mostly cloudy skies, a slight chance of showers or thunderstorms, and highs near 80–85°F inland versus closer to 80°F lakeside due to the lake breeze effect. This spread across the 76–85°F ranges explains the evenly matched market-implied odds (25% each), as small differences in cloud cover, wind direction, or the timing of any convection could shift the daily maximum by a few degrees. Historical September averages hover around 76–80°F, so the current setup reflects residual warmth from the preceding ridge rather than extreme conditions. Updated model runs and local observations over the next 24–48 hours will be the key catalysts likely to narrow trader sentiment before resolution.

The resolution source for this market will be information from NOAA, specifically the highest reading under the "Temp" column for all times on this day, available here: https://www.weather.gov/wrh/timeseries?site=kord
This market will resolve off of the Hourly Data provided using the "Show Hourly Data" button.
If NOAA data for the observation date is unavailable by 11:59 PM ET on the day following the observation date, the Weather Underground Daily Observations table will be used as the resolution source.
In the event that there is no data for the observation date by 11:59 PM ET on the day following the observation date, this market will resolve to the lowest bracket.
To toggle between Fahrenheit and Celsius, click the "Switch to US Units w/ kts" button until the relevant table displays °F.
This market will resolve once the first data point for the following date has been published on the resolution source, or by 11:59 PM ET on the day following the observation date, whichever comes first.
The resolution source for this market measures temperatures to whole degrees Fahrenheit (eg, 21°F). Thus, this is the level of precision that will be used when resolving the market.
Revisions to temperatures recorded within this market's timeframe will be considered until the first datapoint for the following date has been published, after which any alterations will not be considered.
