Early trader sentiment for the Oscars 2027 Best Visual Effects race reflects a tight contest between Dune: Part Three and Project Hail Mary, whose market-implied odds sit just ahead of the pack amid broad uncertainty this far out. Both films benefit from established VFX pipelines—Dune's sweeping desert worlds and practical effects legacy from prior entries, and Project Hail Mary's ambitious space science-fiction scope—while Godzilla Minus Zero draws on Toho's recent Academy win in the category for its kaiju spectacle. Other contenders like The Odyssey, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Avengers: Doomsday trail due to less specialized buzz so far. Key upcoming catalysts include first-look footage, release date positioning in late 2026, and any guild precursor signals once campaigns ramp up. The even spread across options underscores how VFX outcomes often hinge on late reviews and technical showcases rather than early hype alone.
