Julia Letlow holds a commanding lead in the Louisiana Republican Senate primary first round as the candidate endorsed by President Trump, who targeted incumbent Bill Cassidy over his 2021 impeachment vote to convict. With the May 16 vote just days away in a closed primary featuring Cassidy, state Treasurer John Fleming, and lesser-known challengers, traders appear to view Letlow as the clear frontrunner to finish first under Louisiana's jungle primary rules. Recent polling showed a tight three-way contest with substantial undecided voters, yet her position has strengthened amid high Trump-aligned turnout expectations and Fleming's decision to remain in the race. A late surge by Fleming or Cassidy consolidating opposition support, or unexpectedly high undecided turnout favoring the incumbent, remain the primary scenarios that could alter the first-round outcome.
