Romania's ongoing government formation crisis, triggered by the May 2026 no-confidence vote that ousted the Bolojan cabinet, centers on the president's constitutional authority to designate a prime minister candidate who must then secure parliamentary confidence. President Nicușor Dan has attempted multiple nominations, including Eugen Tomac in early June and Adrian Veștea later that month, both of which failed to build the necessary cross-party backing amid coalition disputes involving the PNL, PSD, and other groups. Parliament's fragmentation, with no stable majority, has prolonged the interim status of the prior government and raised risks around EU fund access and fiscal stability. Traders are monitoring further presidential consultations and any emerging minority or coalition arrangements that could enable a successful confidence vote.
