Banxico's August 6 decision to hold the benchmark rate steady at 6.50% and its explicit guidance for maintaining the current monetary policy stance have anchored the 94.5% market-implied probability of no change at the September 24 meeting. Headline inflation eased to 3.10% in early July while core inflation declined to 3.95%, keeping readings within or near the 2-4% target band, yet officials highlighted upside risks from geopolitical tensions and global trade policies alongside a modest Q2 economic rebound. This cautious posture aligns with analyst views favoring a prolonged pause after 475 basis points of prior easing. A sharper inflation rebound or unexpectedly strong growth data ahead of the meeting could still introduce volatility in the narrow probabilities assigned to a 25 basis point move.
