With the Oscars 2027 Best Documentary Feature race still in its earliest stages, trader consensus reflects a wide-open field where no single title has pulled ahead. High-profile projects like Alex Gibney’s Musk benefit from the director’s track record and upcoming Venice and TIFF premieres, while Nuisance Bear draws early attention from its Sundance debut and expansion of an acclaimed short. Other contenders such as American Doctor, Once Upon a Time in Harlem, and One in a Million are priced on distributor momentum and precursor potential, but the market shows tight clustering because most 2026 documentaries have yet to screen. Fall festival results, guild shortlists, and critical reception will likely drive the first meaningful shifts.
