The longstanding single-tournament scoring record of 13 goals, set by Just Fontaine in 1958, has withstood every subsequent World Cup despite expanded fields and more matches. Recent editions show top scorers maxing out at eight goals, as seen with Kylian Mbappé in 2022 and Cristiano Ronaldo in 2002, reflecting improved defenses, deeper squads, and tactical shifts that limit individual output. Trader consensus at 95.7% on "No" for the 2026 edition aligns with this pattern, even with the 48-team format offering up to eight games for finalists. Realistic paths to a record still exist via an unprecedented hot streak from a star like Mbappé or Erling Haaland, though historical data and current form make such outcomes highly improbable.

This market will resolve “Yes” if any player scores 14 or more goals across the entire 2026 FIFA World Cup, including extra time. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”.
Penalty shootout goals do not count toward a player's total.
If the 2026 FIFA World Cup is cancelled, postponed after August 2, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, or it cannot be determined whether the record was broken within that timeframe, this market will resolve to “No”.
The resolution source for this market will be official information from FIFA; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
