Arthur Gea enters the Hamburg European Open qualifying round as the stronger favorite against Mika Petkovic due to a substantial ranking gap and greater ATP-level experience on clay. The 21-year-old Frenchman, ranked No. 143 with a career high of 137, has posted a strong 2026 win rate above 70 percent across surfaces and maintains a solid clay record this season, including recent main-draw appearances in Madrid and Montpellier. In contrast, the 19-year-old German Petkovic sits around No. 615, with momentum from an 8-1 clay record in lower-tier ITF events this year and a wildcard entry that adds home-soil motivation at Am Rothenbaum. Both players prefer the red clay, yet Gea’s superior consistency and match toughness give him the edge in a first-round qualifier where service breaks and rally control will likely decide advancement.
