McCartney Kessler holds a commanding 3-0 head-to-head edge over Renata Zarazua, capped by a straight-sets clay-court win at the same Strasbourg event last year. The American, ranked near 50, arrives with a more consistent 2026 campaign that includes three WTA titles and stronger results against top-100 opponents, while the Mexican at 75 has dropped her last three matches and posted uneven form on clay. Both players enter after recent clay events in Rome and Paris without major injury concerns, positioning Kessler as the consensus favorite in this qualifying opener due to her superior power, serving edge, and proven matchup success. Surface conditions and fatigue from the European swing remain the primary variables that could influence the outcome.
