Daria Kasatkina enters the Strasbourg qualifying draw on red clay as the clear favorite against lower-ranked qualifier Valentina Steiner, buoyed by her recent WTA 125 title in La Bisbal d’Emporda where she secured her first crown in two years with strong baseline consistency and improved movement. The Australian No. 1, ranked well inside the top 100 despite earlier 2026 setbacks from injury and form dips, brings extensive main-draw experience and a solid head-to-head edge in similar clay encounters. Steiner, a 19-year-old German at approximately world No. 571 with primarily ITF-level results, faces a steep step up in competition on her debut at this level. Recent matchups and surface conditions favor Kasatkina’s tactical variety and endurance, though any lapses in early-round sharpness could create opportunities for the underdog in the opening set.
