Parry, the 2023 champion here, built momentum by ending a five-match skid with wins over Beatriz Haddad Maia and compatriot Chloe Paquet (6-4, 3-6, 6-4), leveraging home-crowd support and strong clay baseline play amid a 11-11 season record. Higher-ranked Putintseva (No. 77, 16-10 YTD) held a 2-1 head-to-head edge, including recent clay successes, but the injury—her first reported setback this spring—abruptly ended her bid, underscoring tennis's vulnerability to late fitness issues ahead of French Open qualifying.
