The tight contest for second place in the October 5 Quebec election centers on the PLQ and CAQ, with traders assigning the former a modest edge due to its concentrated Montreal support that historically secures the official opposition role despite weaker francophone backing provincewide. Recent Synopsis polling shows the CAQ surging seven points to 27% and statistically tying the PQ at 28%, largely at the PLQ's expense as the latter fell to 20%, reflecting voter shifts among women and those over 55 amid early campaign dynamics and U.S. trade concerns. Regional fragmentation, including three-way races in Quebec City and CAQ-PQ competition elsewhere, sustains uncertainty, while further polls and platform developments could widen the gap before election day.
