Ongoing US-Iran tensions from the 2026 conflict, including strikes, a fragile ceasefire mediated by Pakistan, and disputes over the Strait of Hormuz, continue to shape trader views on the rial. Heightened sanctions targeting Iran's oil exports and shadow fleet have restricted revenue, while negotiations over nuclear issues and sanctions relief remain unresolved. Recent signals of potential de-escalation and temporary sanctions waivers have eased some pressure on energy prices, yet persistent uncertainty over compliance and diplomatic progress sustains expectations of further rial weakness. With the May 31 resolution approaching, traders weigh these factors against historical patterns of currency volatility during periods of regional instability and limited central bank intervention.
