Robust corporate earnings growth—particularly double-digit gains in technology and AI-related sectors—remains the dominant driver supporting current levels, with consensus 2026 EPS estimates recently lifted toward $340. Persistent inflation pressures, including April CPI at 3.8% and elevated energy prices amid geopolitical tensions, have shifted market-implied odds toward potential Fed rate hikes rather than cuts, increasing volatility. Traders are monitoring upcoming economic releases and any further FOMC communications for signals on monetary policy that could influence near-term index direction.
