Recent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have driven sharp increases in Eurozone energy prices, pushing the latest HICP reading to 3.0% year-over-year in April 2026, up from 2.6% in March. This upside surprise has prompted the ECB’s Survey of Professional Forecasters to revise its 2026 headline inflation projection upward to 2.7%, from 1.8% in the prior quarter, citing second-round effects through wages and transport costs. Market-implied odds reflect trader skepticism that these pressures will fully dissipate, assigning the highest probability to outcomes above 3.1% while pricing in a narrower range around the official consensus. Upcoming Eurostat releases and ECB communications on monetary policy will likely influence whether sentiment shifts toward the 2.8–3.0% bucket or sustains the current skew.
