John Swinney holds a near-certain position in the market for Scotland’s next First Minister due to his unopposed election as Scottish National Party leader after Humza Yousaf’s resignation. With full backing from SNP MSPs and members, Swinney is expected to secure the formal parliamentary nomination without contest. The minimal odds attached to other names, such as Anas Sarwar or Alex Cole-Hamilton, reflect the absence of viable cross-party alternatives or sudden changes in seat distribution. Only an unexpected development—such as a major health issue, internal party rupture, or last-minute scandal—could realistically reopen the contest before the Scottish Parliament vote.
