The special election to fill the vacancy left by the April 2026 death of longtime Democratic Rep. David Scott in Georgia’s 13th district featured a crowded field of Democrats and Republicans on a single July 28 ballot. Georgia law requires a majority for an outright win; otherwise the top two advance to an August runoff. Trader pricing at 63.2% for an outright first-round winner reflected the heavily Democratic Atlanta-area district’s low Republican share, Marcye Scott’s name recognition as the late incumbent’s daughter, and expectations that vote consolidation among Democrats could push one candidate over 50%. Recent polling and early vote patterns showed Scott leading but short of a majority, with the remainder split among other Democrats and minimal GOP support, leaving room for the runoff scenario that ultimately materialized.
