Maine’s 2nd District features an open seat following Democratic Rep. Jared Golden’s retirement, pitting former Republican Gov. Paul LePage against Democratic nominee Matt Dunlap after June primaries concluded via ranked-choice voting. The district’s rural character, recent Republican strength in statewide contests, and alignment with national midterm dynamics have contributed to trader consensus favoring the Republican Party at 58.5% implied probability over the Democratic Party at 35%. Mixed polling reflects a competitive environment where LePage’s name recognition and fundraising contrast with Dunlap’s state government experience, while ranked-choice elements and voter turnout patterns in key counties sustain uncertainty. Late-cycle developments such as candidate debates, endorsements, or shifts in economic sentiment could widen the gap ahead of the November general election.

A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
