Recent polling shows a tight contest for second place in Quebec’s October 5 general election, with the Parti Libéral du Québec (PLQ) and Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) trading ground behind the leading Parti Québécois. A late-August Synopsis survey indicated the CAQ surging seven points to tie the PQ statistically while drawing support from Liberal voters, particularly among francophones and those aged 55 and older. The PLQ retains concentrated backing in Montreal’s anglophone and allophone communities, supporting its position in seat projections despite softer overall numbers. Shifts in second-choice preferences, regional turnout patterns, and campaign dynamics around economic and identity issues could widen or narrow the gap between the two parties before election day.
