The record of 12 goals in a single FIFA World Cup match, set by Austria’s 7-5 victory over Switzerland in 1954, remains intact through the opening days of the 2026 edition. Modern tactical discipline, compact defensive blocks, and elite goalkeeping have produced consistently low goal tallies in recent tournaments, with no match exceeding eight goals since 2002. Early 2026 group-stage fixtures have followed this pattern, featuring organized pressing and limited open play rather than the mismatches that fueled historical outliers. While expanded fields and fatigue later in the schedule could theoretically create opportunities, the structural barriers to 13-plus goals in one contest keep trader consensus firmly against the record falling.

This market will resolve “Yes” if any single match across the 2026 FIFA World Cup produces 13 or more goals in 90 minutes or extra time combined. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”.
Penalty shootout goals do not count.
If the 2026 FIFA World Cup is cancelled, postponed after August 2, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, or it cannot be determined whether the record was broken within that timeframe, this market will resolve to “No”.
The resolution source for this market will be official information from FIFA; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
