South African Reserve Bank forecasts anchor trader sentiment for 2026 average annual inflation around 4.4%, revised higher in May amid persistent food and energy price pressures, with recent prints showing 5.0% in June before easing to 4.3% in July. Market-implied odds cluster tightly between 4.1-4.7%, reflecting uncertainty over whether fuel-driven volatility and services inflation will sustain above the 3% target or allow faster convergence as global commodity effects fade. Key swing factors include upcoming CPI releases, rand stability, and SARB communications on the policy path, with the closely matched probabilities underscoring balanced views on near-term upside risks versus the medium-term disinflation trajectory.
