Ralph Norman holds a commanding position in the York County portion of South Carolina’s August 25 Republican Senate primary runoff because he represents the district that includes York County and finished first there in the August 11 special primary. Norman’s established base in the Upstate region, where he carried multiple counties including his home area, contrasts with Darline Graham Nordone’s broader but less concentrated support across the Midlands and Lowcountry. Endorsements from figures such as former Gov. Mark Sanford and Rep. Nancy Mace have reinforced his regional appeal ahead of the debate scheduled for August 18 and early voting from August 19-21. While Norman’s local strength makes a reversal unlikely, shifts in turnout among voters who backed other primary candidates could still influence the county outcome.
